A good paint job is an art, which requires a great deal of patience and perseverance. It is a multi step process, which involves welding and preparing the body for paint. To ensure a quality paintjob, it is utmost necessary that your car has absolutely no rust. This can be made possible if you remove the metal in the affected area or weld it in patches or more preferably replace the complete panel.

Quarter panels and floorpans are comparatively more difficult to replace than doors and fenders as they require special tools like welder and clamps. The affected area is cut out and a new panel is fitted which is same whether you are removing the metal because of a collision or rust. Light surfaces do not need metal replacement and can be treated with chemicals like liquid rust inhibitor. Rust inhibitors are generally found in gel form and regardless of the brand they all serve the same purpose. They may take 2 to 12 hours to completely do their job.

It is only when you have your car completely free from rust that you can initiate the painting process. The task which consumes the maximum amount of time is the panel straightening part which may require a filler if things do to work out with a hammer and dolly. Although a good paint job can be time consuming and slightly on the expensive side, it is more than a mechanical procedure. A good paint job is an art, which guarantees you an envious look when you are out on the road.
