The Toyota 2000GT was designed and developed by Yamaha and was manufactured in very limited numbers. The production which started in the year 1967 and continued till 1973 saw a total of 300 2000 GTs being produced. The sports car made its first appearance at the Tokyo Motor Show of 1965 and was a revolutionary car when you talk about the automotive world of Japan.

The car which had a similar look to the Jaguar has a curvy front end and its headlights are located on either side of the grille. Paneling of the interior was done with real wood and there were pop headlights as well in some of the 2000 GTs to meet U.S. standards. Overall, a total of 60 cars made it to the U.S.

The 200GT was the first ever Japanese car which promised to give the European sports car a run for their money when it came to looks and driving comfort. The highly modified engine which was derived from the Crown saloon produced a whopping 150bhp.

The 2000 GT had the country’s first 4-wheel disk brakes. The car also has the distinction of having 13 International and 3 world records in its bag which it earned in its endurance run of 78 hours in October 1966. The car also made it on the silver screen with movies like James Bond’s You Only Live Twice. The flick showed a retrofitted convertible 2000 GT which never went on sale. The sale of the car was not a success because of its high price but still it is one rare and valuable machine which makes every owner very proud.
