The Volkswagen Polo Mark IV was released in 2002 and was in production for three years. This generation featured four distinct body styles. These included the 3 door hatchback, four door saloon and the 5 door hatchback.

The new Mark IV was revealed in September of 2001 and was for sale early in 2002. The In comparison to previous versions, this one was new. This car came in with multiple engine models. There were two 1.2 straight three petrol engine options. One of these had 6 valves and the other 12. Four 1.4 L options were made. Three of these were 16 valve petrol engines with varying power. The fourth was a turbodiesel. Three engines are 1.9 L straight 4 engines. All of these required diesel fuel. A 1.6 L straight four 8 valve engine was offered using petrol. This came with a cast iron block as well as a very short manual transmission. The 2.0 L straight 4 comes in an 8 valve petrol model also with a cast iron block and manual transmission.

The dimensions of the Volkswagen Polo Mark IV feature a length of 3897 mm, a width of 1650 mm, height of 1465 mm and a wheelbase of 2460 mm. It came in different body types. This included a saloon vehicle that was named the Polo Classic. This model was popular in other countries around the world. This vehicle has mixed success when sold as a new vehicle. It did sell well but in comparison to the sales of previous Polo models, the sales were down. However, many people have snatched up these used models that hit the markets and found them to be very durable and reliable cars for not much money. In fact, many consumers today look to the Volkswagen Polo as a choice used vehicle.

I am a huge expert at buying used cars and I would love to share my knowledge with you, so here are my own benefits of buying used cars:

Price

It goes without saying that buying a new car is much more expensive than buying a used one, so price is the main idea behind buying the used auto. Prices can be really juicy and hot and it is possible to get a great and almost new car at a very reasonable price.

Package

As a rule, you can get a fully equipped and packed car with all the possible options and advantages much cheaper.

Safety

Believe me, modern cars are very safe and reliable, so even a bit older model of the car will come with the same number of airbags and safety options.

Style

I am really glad to tell you that even after a couple of years most cars still have the same body style.

Warranty

It goes without saying that new vehicles typically come with 10 year/100,000 mile warranties and these warranties are transferable.

And now a couple of words about used Toyota Yaris. The Yaris was introduced in 1999 to replace Toyota’s Starlet, and now this small car is a bestseller with a huge number of international Awards. All Yaris-cars are stylish, elegant, famously economic and trouble-free, so a perfect variant for a used car.

Due to the unrest after the Second World War and the Suez Crisis, which resulted in shortage of petroleum in Britain, there was a need for a high mileage car in the market. This is when Leonard Lord, chairman of British Motor Corporation went to engineer Alec Issigonis to design a car that could compete with the high-mileage German import cars.

Issigonis did some unique additions and subtractions while creating the new design. Hedeveloped 10-inch wheels for the model, mounted the engine transversely unlike usual, used 950 cubic centimeters four-cylinder powerplant, let the gearbox share the engine space and transferred power to the front wheels using a constant-velocity joint.

All these tactics allowed Issigonis to contract his engine compartment to just 18 inches. Overall his Morris Mini Minor-Austin had 120 inches of total length with seating space for four people.

The Subaru 360 had an air cooled engine of 356 cc and 2-stroke, which was transversely mounted at the rear. The engine was especially designed in a way to ensure it doesn’t exceed 360 cc so that it would qualify for the keicar class in Japan. The body had a monocoque construction and the roof panel was made of fiberglass. At that time (1958) it was considered to very advanced.

In 1958, when the 360 was introduced the engine was 16 hp and the company claimed that it was highly fuel efficient at 66 mpg. However, by the time production was over the powered increased considerably to 25 hp and had the option of a 36 hp twin-carbureted engine.

Later on a number of variants of the Subaru 360 were produced. Some of the variants included a station wagon, a convertible and a couple of sport models called the Young S. The young S had an upgraded engine, a tachometer and bucket seats. The year 1961 saw the introduction of Sambar, a truck and van using the same engine. This played a major role in helping many small businesses due to small size, ease to drive, fuel efficiency and quickness.

Malcolm Bricklin imported the Subaru 360 to the US, however it soon was reported by a highly reputed auto magazine that the car was unacceptable as it violated several safety measures and also wasn’t powerful enough. This led to a major dip in the sales volumes and enormous losses were incurred.

In the spring of 1947, Ferry Porsche expressed his desire to build a car that he himself would like. This is when the concept of Porsche 356 was ideated. This car was build using Volkswagen components and was initially named VW-Sports and got a construction number 356, which later was included in the name.

Ferry Porsche, who was the Junior Director at Porsche, had a very simple vision, a vision to create a sports cars that he would love to have. The engineers at Porsche were fascinated by the concept and completed the road ready chassis by February 1948.

The components were taken from Volkswagen and they included a flat 4 powered unit, suspensions, gearbox, steering and springs. It just weighed 585 kg and had a 35 bhp engine. It had a maximum speed of 84 mph or 135 km/h. In June 1948, the first mid-engined Porsche sports car was given official homologation by the authorities of the Govt. of Carinthia through an individual permit. The Chassis number of the first Porsche sports car was 356-001.

Porsche started the production of the regular coupes and cabriolets of the Porsche Type 356/2 in latter part of 1948 and similar to the Type 356/1 it also featured an aluminum body design. But the Type 2 cars offered more luggage space as compared to Type1 and this was because of engine which was placed at the back. The fact that Volkswagen allowed Porsche to avail its components is a testimony of Ferry Porsche being a great engineer along with a smart business man.

Mini is considered to be the most well-liked British car and was manufactured by the British Motor Corporation from 1959 to 2000. Being a star of the 60s, the car was a benchmark for many other car manufacturers during its time. The Mini was also ranked second as the most significant car of the past century in an international poll. Sir Alec Issigonis is credited for the wonder design of this revolutionary car.

The Mini Seven had a water cooled engine that was placed transversely along with four cylinders. The car was different from its predecessors as it had a four speed transmission and a front wheel drive. It also came with lubricated engine oil. This paved the way for other cars that were produced since 1970 as they all used the same configuration.

The car retained the engine mounted fan by having the radiator placed on the left pat of the car. This helped a great deal in saving the vehicle length. The Suspension system of the Mini Seven had compact rubber cones and was designed at Moulton Development Limited by Alex Moulton. Although this made the car ride a little bumpier but it also gave it a go kart like handling which really increased the popularity of the car.

The hinged boot lid increased the luggage space of the car. The various technical modifications made to the car reduced the dimensions but helped in increasing the overall space for the driver and luggage. The 848cc engine gave the car a fair speed of 72mph. the registration of the design by Rover Group as trademark in 1990s explains the level of popularity which the car was able to manage.

With an incredible number of 748,904 cars sold by 2005 end, the MX-5 is among the best selling sports cars of the world. The MX-5 was designed on the similar lines of Triumph Spitfire, MG Midget, and Porsche 550 Spider and was meant to be small roadster with minimal weight and complexity. With roadsters sent into the oblivion because of the various regulations, the MX-5 with its modern technology would mark a return for them.

With 4-wheel independent suspension and four cylinder engine, the sports car would have manual as well as automatic transmission as an alternative. The body of the MX-5 is very conventional and has the Powerplant Frame which creates a responsive feel. There are also antilock brakes and slip differentials available in some of the MX-5s. There are also some models which have the traction option in them. With a history spread over three generations, the car has more than 150 awards to its name.

It also has its name registered in the Guinness Book of Records for being the best selling sports car of the world. The car has undergone many changes in term of both interior and exterior and also in its mechanical components in its three generations. An internal Mazda competition between the Design Studios located in Japan and the USA led to the wonderful design of the MX-5. The car made its debut at the Chicago Auto Show in 1989 and had an optional hardtop available for the car lovers.

The automotive history of Opel which spans over 110 years makes it a brand known for its rich traditions. The developments which have taken place over the years have always come back to make their presence felt. The excellence achieved over the years makes us look back into the history of Opel to have a peep over the initial models.

The Opel Kadett, a car of the year 1930 was used as a basis to built two –seat convertible prototype in 1938. The striking roadster could never see the light of the day. The scarcity of steel and less units in this segment before World War II meant that the project was never pursued. However, records suggest that Opel was set for the market launch. Evidently a brochure had details of the car which confirmed that the car had 1.1 liter displacement and a three speed transmission. With 23hp the car could notch up a top speed of 98km/h.

The Strolch was eventually introduced by the classic experts at Opel 70 years after it was actually developed. The challenges faced by the specialists in the classic team were associated with the aerodynamic rear design and the work on those body parts that were not present in the Opel Kadett. Using old pictures as reference material, the team had to use a lot of imagination together with technical skills to build the fabric top. The grayscale analysis carried out on the old picture made it clear that the car’s actual color was bright red.

The Mini, which is considered to be the most accepted British made car, was an icon of the 1960s. Sir Alec Issigonis is credited for designing this wonderful two door car for the British Motor Corporation (BMC). It was manufactured by the BMC from 1959 to 2000. The car was replaced by the New Mini in the year 2001.

The Suez crisis which led to reduction in oil supplies in 1956 brought about the Mini to counter the oil crisis. The Mini had a four cylinder water cooled engine and a front wheel drive. The engine of the car was mounted diagonally which was a departure from the traditional way. To retain the engine mounted fan, the radiator of the car was fitted at the left side of the car. Although this meant that the radiator would receive the hot air, the location helped in saving precious vehicle length.

Alex Moulton designed the suspension system of the Mini at Moulton development Limited. Instead of using the usual springs, he used compact rubber cones which gave the car rigidity for better handling. Dunlop got the initial contract to develop the ten-inch wheels specified for the car. The car had sliding windows in the door and this design increased the storage capacity of the car. The number plates on the earlier cars were hinged and as a result they remained visible even when the car’s boot lid was open.

The Mini Cooper and the Cooper S were the sportier version of the Mini and were very successful as rally cars. They have the distinction of winning the Monte Carlo Rally on three occasions.
