The Phantom Drophead Coupe was unveiled by Rolls Royce in a motor show in Detroit in the 2007 and the production of the car started in Goodwood during the summer of the same year. This car is more of a modern version of the classic Roll Royce designs that we are so used to see. The aluminum space frame makes it a very lightweight yet rigid car and it is fine blend of latest technology and a streamlined, sleek convertible body.

The exterior of the car is a true reflection of Rolls Royce cars timeless sense of style and design. The wheels, the long bonnet, a short front to go along with the long rear, bring out the true essence of Rolls Royce cars. The interior is more focused on creating more space and a mixture of elements that give a stunning yet social environment.

Ian Cameron the Chief Designer of Rolls Royce feels that this car provided them with an opportunity to foray into convertible cars space and its significance to Rolls Royce. This car has been designed for fun and is engineered to give long years of seamless service.

Many features of the 100EX have been incorporated in the Drophead Coupe. The 100EX was an experimental based convertible by Rolls Royce in 2004. This car manages to marry the classic Rolls Royce look with the latest technology and give us a very sporty yet elegant convertible. Its style and beauty has been appreciated by many across the world.

The production of the Rolls-Royce Wraith was carried out from 1938 and 1939 at their Derby factory. It took over the Rolls –Royce 25/30. The Wraith had a wheelbase which was four inches larger than its earlier model. The overhead valve and the 4257cc engine were also based on the 25/30. The car had a cross-flow cylinder head and a four speed gearbox. Other than the first speed, the higher ones had synchromesh and was a right hand change going by the tradition.

The front suspension of the Wraith retained the leaf springs of the rear axle. The governor controlled the damping rate of the front hydraulic dampers and so it differed with the speed of the vehicle. This made the car superior than the 25/30. The chassis of the car did not have the riveted construction but was welded. Hispano-Suiza had the car engine patented and its drum brakes were built by Rolls-Royce. The 17 inch wire wheels of the car had removable discs that covered the spokes.

The car also had hydraulic jacking system fitted underneath the passenger seat which could be operated with the help of a lever. The speed of the car depended on its style and weight and could notch up a speed of 85mph. According to the test by one of the renowned motor magazine the car could speed up from 0 to 50 in just 16.4 sec. The Rolls-Royce also featured in some of the famous Hollywood movies like My Favorite Brunette and Johnny Dangerously.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom, which was launched in 2003, is a luxury saloon vehicle which is made by a BMW subsidiary called Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. The car is the first Rolls-Royce branded automobile made under BMW’s ownership. The 453hp and 531 ft of torque is a result of the 6.8L, 48-valve strong V12 engine. The engine of the incredible car is acquired from the existing V12powerplant of BMW. The car weighs 2485 kg and has been built on aluminium space frame. The Phantom has a height of 63 inches and measures 228 inches in length.

With six-speed automatic transmission, the car can notch up a speed of 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. It also has a double wishbone suspension. Apart from the US, because of compliance with the federal law, the Phantom has side markers on all vehicles. The Geneva Motor Show in March 2005 also saw an extended wheelbase Phantom which measured 250 mm longer than the regular Phantom. BMW took great care to differentiate Phantom from their other range. Though about 15 percent of the Phantom’s components are shared with other models of BMW, the Phantom maintains the traditional design cues of Rolls Royce.

Some of the new features of the Phantom include a power reserve dial indicating the amount of engine power that is left for the driver to avail. It also has rear-hinged doors and electronic locks that do not open accidently when you are on the move. BMW has a set limit of producing only 10,000 units of Phantom and the car has a base price of $340,000 in the US.

Rolls-Royce fittingly reclaimed its position as the leader in automobile design and engineering by introducing the new Rolls-Royce Phantom 2003. The car has been manufactured with the most advanced technology and it took almost four years for the designing and engineering team to develop this breakthrough model. The car was built in the company’s modern production plant in Goodwood.

The car has the trademark long bonnet, wide C-pillar and separate windows of Rolls-Royce. The advance designing in the car include a unique spaceframe made of aluminium and a direct petrol injection V12 engine. It can reach a top speed of 149mph. The rear coach doors of the car are another proof of the classy engineering that seems to be in abundance in the new Phantom. The doors are hinged at the back so that the passengers can enter or exit the car elegantly and the best part is that they can be closed simply by pressing a button. The interior of the car has been given a very simple design yet it looks very sophisticated. The revolving panel which is right in the center of the dashboard hides the multi-media screen. The finest leather and wood used in the car give the interior a unique and plush feel.

The 2003 phantom also has an extraordinarily elegant exterior finish. The hand-polished body has an envious finish of depth and sheen. The beautiful car is available in 15 standard exterior colours and can be specified in single or double coachlines. The car promises to give you the most thrilling driving experience that you can ever imagine.

The Rolls Royce Silver Dawn made its first appearance in 1949 and was built primarily for export. However, this restriction was lifted later on as large number of this model were built with left hand drive so that the customers in the home market could also get an access to this model. A total of 761 units were manufactured from 1949 to 1955.

The 1951 Silver Dawn had an engine capacity 4,566 cc liters. The car was also popularly known as the ‘Big Bore-Small Boot’. The weight of the 120 inch wheelbase was around 4,145 pounds. The public acceptance and demand for this model drove the Rolls Royce to increase the volume and decide to manufacture the entire car and not just the coachwork.

Although the company was apprehensive about the non- coachbuilt cars, the Silver Dawn really managed to make an impression among the customers. The demand was really high in America where the first cars with straight six 4,257cc engine were exported. In 1953 the car also became available in the UK thus creating a new market.

These cars had a bigger bore engine, big boot coachwork and were also available in automatic transmission. The present owner acquired the car in 2001 and made way for the ground up restoration. The BMW Euro 2003 also saw the car win the Corporate Pick and Best Restoration award in its class.

The Silver dawn is excellently designed and with best quality of manufacture and finish it surely is a connoisseur’s delight.

The 1935 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Jonckheere Coupe comes across as the most memorable Rolls-Royce of all time. It makes most other car Rolls-Royces’ look obsolete by its sheer size and stature. The Jonckheere Coupe has an imposing length and menacing curves. Its oversize grill makes most other cars look old-fashioned and boring.

The remarkable car which came during the art Deco movement of the 1930s had a modern style and mathematical geometric shapes contemporary of its time. Because of its circular doors the car is also known as the “The Round Door Rolls”. The design which originated in the Rolls-Royce factory in Great Britain was shipped to Belgium where it reached Henri Jonckheere who along with his sin was renowned in entire Europe for making car and bus bodies.

The Jonckheeres made an extravagant body which eventually won the ‘Prix de Cannes’ award. The car has oval doors and sliding left and right vents. It also happens to be the only few Phantom I which had modified grill. Max Obie restored the car with silk headliner and seats that could be folded into beds.

After being resurrected the car was sold at an auction in the 1980s and was procured by a Japanese collector who retained it for 20 years. The car eventually came back to U.S. in pieces and Tired Iron works in California were assigned the task of putting the pieces together.

At the 2005 Pebble Beach Concours, it won the Lucius Beebe Trophy for the finest Rolls-Royce along with the hearts of many a people. The car has also been spotted at various other Concours events like Measowbrook and Ameila Island.

If there is one car that is a pride for the owner till date then it is none other than the Rolls-Royce Limited. This vintage car was first manufactured by an aero-engine manufacturing company in 1914.

It got its name from its founders named Charles Stewart Rolls and Henry Royce, who developed this car during a partnership in 1904. After Rolls-Royce Limited, two successors came in, one in 1987 Rolls- Royce plc and the other in 1973 Rolls-Royce Motors.

It was later in 1973, when the Rolls-Royce Limited car division was separated and was divided into Rolls-Royce Motors. Rolls-Royce has its headquarters in England, UK.
