The 1957 Mercedes- Benz 300 SL is without a doubt a classic. It was designed by the Mercedes- Benz for reintroducing themselves on the racing circuit after the World War II. The designers had a vision of getting the 300 engine in a smaller car and this is how the Roadster originated.

The car was introduced in the year 1957. The car was built-in with both aluminium and steel. It boasted a large steel structure. It was specifically designed to weigh less so that the torque and thrust of the engine could be used to make the car move faster.

Although being majorly built with steel, parts of the car like the doors, trunk lid and the hood were in aluminium to give the car a light body. This combination of the design and the reliable technology meant that the car could give even Ferraris and Jaguars a run for the money. It came with 240 bhp and a maximum speed of over 140 miles per hour. The powerful drum brakes meant it can also be stopped instantaneously.

Apart from the breathtaking speed that it can generate the roadster is also full of style. It was purposefully designed to appeal to the American customers. The low lying hood and the split roofline make road racing a thrilling experience. So the car has an amazing design, comparatively smaller size and a roaring engine and add to it the loads of style that it has the 300 SL is truly a classic and a beauty to behold for its admirers.

I remember this candy green, as well as the white being very popular colors for this car. The limited edition TR-8 (same look) was extremely popular as well, but the pricey tag made it very limited indeed.

A truly beutiful Ferrari to watch as it took turns at low speeds, only to slingshot around the next car into the straight.

Just for you to know, the Consul Capri was produced in over 17.000 cars and some 1800GT models
